Indoor Lighting
As the heart of the ship, where the hammers, pistons and crankshafts rotate to propel the movement – forwards, backwards, or sideways – through the water, a safe working environment is paramount, and correct, high-performing lighting, subject to severe vibration, is the critical foundation to this.
RLT Marine’s innovative LED products, designed and manufactured for indoor spaces, provide the ultimate energy-efficient solution for various different conditions and environments to ensure the conditions and standards onboard, where the crew live and work, are upheld. To enhance morale and create optimal working and living conditions onboard, our indoor lighting solutions are meticulously designed to ensure a comfortable and productive environment for all.
In addition, installation is made as easy as possible, maintenance is dramatically reduced, and our products are manufactured to withstand the harshest of marine conditions.

Machinery Spaces
The crew in machinery spaces can often be deep below the surface of the water, working without any natural daylight, so the light quality has to be exceptional, with the colour temperature typically at 5K or 6.5K. With the higher ambient temperatures in all engine rooms, no matter the vessel type, these spaces demand top-class lighting systems, particularly close to the exhaust pipes.
Due to the heavy-duty machinery, mostly working 24 hours a day, there is constant vibration, especially at the rear of the vessel in the steering gear room or near the propeller shaft tunnel, so be sure to check whether any lighting and electrical equipment you purchase has been tested, and has passed, the marine standards of vibration.
Due to minimal space and restricted heights, any lighting solutions need to be compact, with low-profile designed to prevent head injuries to the crew.
Cabins & Living Spaces
Accommodation areas on all vessels such as crew cabins, passenger cabins, bathrooms and dressing rooms require lighting designed for comfort and relaxation. LED luminaires typically have a 3,000K colour temperature, but sometimes have 4,000K, with the luminaires equipped with a dimming, sensor system, which reduces the output and glare and changes the light colour to a warmer tone when dimmed.
Corridors & Walkways
Corridors on a vessel are designed specifically to be a compact space between and within accommodation and machinery spaces, as well as a primary escape route in the case of emergency. For these areas to be effective and efficient in their purpose, the lighting designs in such spaces are very important and are required to harmonize with the overall interior design of other rooms and areas, so it isn’t a distraction. In emergency situations, for example, the emergency luminaires will guide the crew and any passengers out of danger, and into safety, by utilising their emergency system.
Hazardous Areas
RLT Marine’s versatile hazardous area lighting product portfolio ensure safety when working in confined, hazardous conditions, including Zone 1 areas where the risk of electric shock means a reduced voltage is the safest. Highly reliable and totally safe and certified, lighting in the hazardous environments is key, but it’s often gotten wrong due to a lack of due diligence.
Car Deck Spaces
Our lighting solutions for car deck spaces are engineered to withstand the unique challenges of maritime environments, ensuring reliable performance amidst vibrations, varying temperatures, and potential exposure to moisture. From energy-efficient LED fixtures to robust floodlights, our range caters to diverse car deck configurations. Whether loading, unloading, or securing vehicles during transit, our marine lights provide optimal brightness, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of car deck operations.
Wheelhouse & Bridges
Unlike in the machinery spaces, the crew operating on the bridge or wheelhouse apartments work in natural daylight during the day, but need appropriate night vision light fittings when operating throughout the night. When docked in harbour, daylight lux levels are required, so there are high requirements and standards for lighting and electrical equipment installed in the bridge.
